Lou Bonnevie greeted the media with her casual, “Kumusta naman tayo diyan?” when she arrived at the press conference of Earth Jam 2008 held recently. She was still in her usual “rocker” look—boots, tight jeans, and loose black shirt, and a cowboy hat—when Pop Rock icon Lou Bonnevie introduced herself and the other invited band members for the Earth Jam 2008. It’s been a while since Lou faced the media to promote something. If not for her annual Earth Jam project, the 42-year-old rock star would not be recognized by the younger generation today because it has been years since she last performed in public in her own gig. Lou started out her career in the ’80s as a solo artist. She was 19 years old when she was launched in a concert titled Next In Line. She could also be remembered as a solo artist who can rock a crowd with her acoustic guitar. Although she can effectively perform loud rock music, this music icon became popularly known for her rock ballads, which she considers as part of pop rock.

The country’s top acts will unite for an evening of music to help in the fight against a dreaded disease that threatens all people, regardless of culture, social status, age and gender. On December 12, MTV Philippines will unleash once more the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDS at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City. This annual music festival is part of MTV’s unwavering commitment to empower and educate the youth about the perils of HIV/AIDS, which is a growing problem around the globe. This time, the campaign focuses on a more practical and responsible approach in fighting the disease.

Slapshock’s latest record under EMI Records compiles the band’s greatest gems—all withstanding the test of shifting trends and fads. Frontman Jamir Garcia seconded Lee’s claims by rationalizing the need to look back and gather all the songs that defined Slapshock for the fans and the local industry as a whole.
